How we evaluate POS systems
Our methodology
Every POS system we review is evaluated across five dimensions: pricing transparency, feature depth for the target business type, ease of setup and daily use, contract flexibility, and quality of customer support. We weight these dimensions differently depending on the business category — a food truck cares more about portability and cost than a multi-location retailer who prioritizes inventory management and omnichannel sync. Our ratings reflect how well each system serves its intended audience, not just a raw feature count.
How we research
We gather information from multiple sources: published pricing pages, product documentation, free trials and demo accounts, user reviews on G2 and Capterra, community discussions on Reddit and industry forums, and direct conversations with business owners who use these systems daily. We verify pricing and feature claims against live product interfaces whenever possible. Our reviews are updated regularly to reflect plan changes, new features, and shifts in the competitive landscape.
Affiliate disclosure
Our recommendations are based on independent research. We may earn a commission when you sign up through our links at no extra cost to you.
Affiliate partnerships never influence our ratings, rankings, or recommendations. We include POS systems in our comparisons based on merit, and we have featured systems that do not have affiliate programs when they are the best option for a given business type. Our editorial team operates independently from our business partnerships.
Rating scale
We rate every POS system on a scale from 1.0 to 5.0. Here is how to interpret our scores:
